The publisher makes no warranty, express or implied, with respect to the material contained herein. It is intended to support introductory courses to ship design as a text book. The present book is a thoroughly updated and enhanced, new edition of a book published originally in Greek language by the author Papanikolaou, A.
Papanikolaou, K. Anastassopoulos, NTUA publications, Athens, , which cover specific elements, methods and examples of application of ship design and are being used by students of NTUA for the elabo- ration of the assigned Ship Design Project work.
The book consists of six 6 main chapters and five 5 appendices with sup- portive materials. Chapter 1 gives an introduction to maritime transport and to marine vehicles in general, defines the objectives and elaborates on the basic methods of ship design. Chapter 5 covers the criteria for selecting the engine installation, the propulsion plant and steering devices of the ship.
The author used in the development of the original form of this book material of classical ship design, as he was taught it in the early 70ties by the memorable Professor Erwin Strohbusch at the Technical University of Berlin.
This material was later complemented by valuable elements from the lecture notes of Professors H. Linde Technical Univer- sity of Berlin , who happened to be both also students and associates of the late Prof. In the past decades the population of the world has shown the exceptionally fast growth and it is still expected to rise even more until most of the countries has become fully developed.
There is a critically important need to accommodate this rapidly expanding population via the new places for living and work, associated infrastructure, food products and so many other aspects.
And, the potential colonization of the ocean spaces might be considered one of the ways in which people would engage with the challenges connected with the provision of more energy resources as well as the space available for humans.
This volume is intended to provide the professional survey of the basic projects that have seen the building of the large floating structures or attained the duly detailed design concepts.
Such projects would add a very valuable vision to the discourse that already exist, and include the mobile offshore base and OTEC platforms, floating oil storage bases and offshore oil turbines plus he floating ferry pier located in Japan, floating performance stage in Singapore, large marine concrete structures build in Norway and other interesting technical projects. The author has compiled the key floating structures in one book capturing the innovative features and marking the latest technological developments in the subject field of engineering.
Ship Design and Construction - Robert Taggart
Here is the latest seventh edition of one of the most recognized textbooks on ship construction offering professional guidance for the design of vessels and their construction from A to Z.
The volume will provide readers with the good overview of the established shipyard techniques proven effective, safety matters involved, materials used for construction, their strength, cutting and welding of metals, including the newly introduced methods of computer-aided design.
The book also covers the relevant international regulations applicable to the different ship types, contemporary materials and fabrication techniques. The material in the book is arranged in seven sections introducing readers to the world of shipbuilding and covering the fundamental ship design, dimensions and categories, as well as the development of the types.
The content also considers the developments in the shipyard layout together with the development of the original arrangement and structural design plus the major processes that are commonly involved in the plate or section preparation and machining. The text of the book has been already found invaluable by the students of marine technology, practicing naval architects and marine engineers due to the amount of the useful information this book provides and reasonable arrangement of the sections.
This is what has gained so much popularity to this release of "Ship Construction" by D.
Eyres and G. The present publication prepared by Paolo Boccotti was released to provide industry with the new perspective concerning the calculation of the wave forces acting on the marine structures through unifying the probabilistic and deterministic ways of approaching the theory of waves and through combination of the various methods commonly used together with the experimental measurements.
The author has included numerous real life case studies and worked examples to supplement the theory and let readers understand it easier. The volume includes discussion on the software used for the analysis.
An absolutely recommended book for everyone dealing with wave mechanics and calculations related to the wave loads since this is very important aspect of any marine structure design.
All aspects of the design they shall be aware of have been covered in the pages of this popular volume. This training course was developed by Captain S. Hosseini and released by the I.
Training Institute specifically to assist ship chief mates willing to have better understanding of the ship construction. Such understanding will definitely contribute to the safety of the voyage since knowing the construction of the vessel will help make better arrangements related to its use and also choose appropriate course of actions during various situations. The material of this training volume is arranged in seven major sections starting from the materials commonly used for constructing ship hulls.
The next two sections are dealing with the ship bulkheads including their construction and watertightness aspects, bulkhead testing etc. The weather- and watertight doors are discussed in the other section together with their construction, operation and maintenance.
The rest of the book is dealing with the corrosion of the ship hull and methods of preventing corrosion, classification, survey and drydocking of the vessels, and finally the requirements of the SOLAS convention that shall be taken in consideration and complied with at all times. Here are the lecture notes for the Ship Structure course intended to facilitate the development of the good technical knowledge of the structure of the ship's hull.
The main focus has been made by the authors of the course on the different types of the structural behavior on the basis of the fundamental concepts of mechanics of materials. This dedication on the part of Norman Thompson mas characteristic of that exhibited by all of the Authors and the Control Committee who took part in the preparation of this book.
This book elaborates on theoretical approaches and practices of the preliminary design of ships. The various processes used in ship launching, including the most modern methods of transferring a vessel from the building site to a waterborne condition, are described and launching calculation techniques are delineated. Lamb and M.
The text of the book has been already found invaluable by the students of marine technology, practicing naval architects and marine engineers due to the amount of the useful information this book provides and reasonable arrangement of the sections.
